The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (commonly known as the “Visa Lottery”) makes available 50,000 permanent visas annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet certain requirements from qualifying countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
It is worth mentioning that being selected in the visa lottery does not guarantee a green card to the winners. Each year, there are more people selected than actual visas available. Therefore it is very important for those selected in the visa lottery to act promptly and accurately in order to avoid delays in the process.
